In general, do you think developed nations should pay more or less money to developing countries to help them fight climate change?

Pay more money (42%) – "We all breath the same air and the effects of climate change will not spare those in developed countries. We need to do something collectively to preserve planet Earth and if richer countries need to foot more of the bill, that needs to happen. Would be nice to see a percentage of the costs determined (like a sliding scale model) based on what countries can contribute."

  • "Developed countries have been contributing to climate change for decades. Now that developing countries are being hit with the effects, it's definitely on them to help support the devastation. Making takes fair again would ease the burden."

"Developing countries are going to be hit the hardest by climate change, and have been the least responsible for the effects we are feeling now. The emissions that the US and western countries have released over decades have brought us to this point, and it is in humanities best interest to give much needed support to developing countries, many of whom have been heavily exploited by us, as we have extracted great amounts of wealth and resources from them. I am surprised that China being labeled as developing, but we can’t let that stall the work that needs to be done."

  • "Developing nations do not have the resources to combat climate change effectively, and are often bearing the brunt of its effects (sub-saharan Africa, Pacific Asian countries, etc.). The wealthier nations like the US emit some of the highest emissions that affect these poorer countries, so they should have to contribute. I do think it is ridiculous that China is considered a developing country."

Pay less (or no) money (39%) – "We need to use other methods to fix climate change than throw money at it. Sustainability measures in both developing and developed countries are needed and would go farther to help the globe while not targeting a few countries as victims. Everyone is affected by harsh unpleasant conditions as a result of climate change no matter where we all live. Our new campaign slogan can be "We All," similar to Penn State's "We Are," in helping in this wide huge endeavor to contain climate change."

"Let nature manage the problem. It always wins in the end and proves humans wrong. Everything we do compounds the problem. A green technology creates environmental damage the same as non-green; you can't split hairs. If you believe in climate change being caused by humans, then it is your duty to stop buying conveniences and go fully back to nature. You can't buy your way out of climate change. That is an insane notion."

  • "Climate change is real. The earth has cycled through many different average temperature ranges. Trying to control it is just a grift. Those poor countries just funnel the money back to the politicians of the nations that pledged. Keeping a cut for their leaders of course."

"Historically, giving money to the governments of developing countries inspires corruption, wealth disparity, and even greater poverty. At its worst, efforts like China's debt traps enslave developing nations. Immediately remove all of the BRIC and oil rich nations from the list of "developing" nations. Share technology through tax credits to companies with the green tech, for locally educated and staffed green tech capabilities in developing nations, in exchange for giving up coal fired energy as green tech comes online. That last condition is non-negotiable."

Unsure/other (19%) – "I know this is a generalization, but there are many developing nations who have unstable governments or governments who are actively fighting/oppressing their own citizens. What would be the criteria who an -ING nation to qualify for money? Why give them a cash payment when we could be helping in the form of providing cleaner technologies and helping build infrastructure?"

  • "I'll be completely honest, as much as I believe the experts on the issues of climate change (though I think it can occasionally be overdramatized), it's one that I really struggle to take seriously. With our world struggling with so many issues, it's hard to justify spending so much money on something that is nearly impossible to personally experience the negative effects of. I'm completely aware it's a bias towards the present and against the future, but it really truly is how I mentally wrestle with this topic. I know I'm not alone in this."
