In your opinion, should transgender athletes be allowed to compete in women’s sports?

👍 Yes (21%) – "There is no reason to make a blanket policy when the number of trans athletes is so tiny. Each athlete should be considered individually. This transphobic outrage is based on fear, not reality."

  • "Because it's a ridiculous notion that a transgender woman is not a woman and thus ineligible to play the sport, especially after being recruited at the college level to play. The amount of thoughtful intention, and likely external social trauma, that goes into the decision to and process of transition, not to mention the mandated process of hormone therapy and a behavioral health evaluation, shows that this woman has already fought hard to be a part of this team and recognized for who she is. She doesn't deserve this discrimination, and her identity shouldn't be the guise and "reason" for their hatred and bigotry. If other women on other teams can't handle losing to her and her team, they need to reassess what it means to be an athlete and a woman."

👎 No (64%) – "Men's and women's sports exist separately for very specific reasons surrounding the physical differences in muscle mass, strength etc. Transgender people are not being denied their right to compete in sports, they can still play any sport they wish against other humans of the same sex. And lets be honest the issue isn't with women who want to compete against men, it is obviously men who are better athletes when playing against women...which is the entire purpose of creating the separation of men's and women's sports!"

  • "There are too many blatant physical differences that give males an athletic edge over females. Socially, I’m not sure that anyone cares what you identify as. But in a competitive setting where a genetic male is playing against females, it puts the females health, and professional opportunities at risk."

"There is nothing that can erase the fact that a person's genetic code will be constant. If you were born genetically male you will always be male. A person may act, dress, modify their bodies, and behave like the opposite gender, but the DNA will be constant."

  • "Unfortunately even despite hormone treatment their body structure, strength etc is still different and potentially puts them at an advantage over other women. Regardless of whether or not I agree morally on the subject, I do not feel this is a right we need to offer to people who want to change genders."

"I believe that trans people participating in female sports teams raises important questions about fairness in competition. Biologically, men and women are structured differently, which often results in men having natural advantages in areas such as bone density, muscle mass, and physical strength. These differences are why men and women typically compete in separate sports categories—to ensure a level playing field for all participants. Rather than integrating trans athletes into existing male or female leagues, I think a more equitable solution would be the creation of a dedicated sports league for trans individuals. This approach would celebrate inclusivity while maintaining fairness across all athletic competitions, allowing athletes to compete on a level playing field that respects both biological differences and personal identities."

  • "Biologically, men and women are built different. Height, body, muscles, brains, etc. The #1 national womens team would lose against the middle of the mens league. It’s just different. I understand they don’t feel right in their bodies but that does not give them the right to have a leg up on people who have trained for years to get where they got just by being born a male."

🤷 Unsure/other (15%) – "The key is in the details. I don't know if there is a clear legal definition of sex/gender definition. The actual variety of physical manifestation of sex is amazing. Add to this the difficult-to-measure or verify mental aspects, and the whole topic is overwhelming. It's easy to form an opinion, but it's hard to know all of the facts and factors."

  • "While I agree that transgender women should be allowed to play most sports, there are some that I disagree with. One year of testosterone does not diminish the musculature and natural genetics of their biological sex. Things like swimming, running, volleyball, etc. They would still have a clear advantage. I do think that these women should still be allowed in the bathroom of their choosing and to participate in sports that doesn’t have a large gender advantage."
