In your opinion, will TikTok ultimately end up being banned in the US?

👍 Yes (46%) – "Yes, and I hope it does. I'm a teenager without social media, and its mind-boggling how many of my peers' brains have been affected by TikTok (and social media as a whole). I doubt Trump will repeal any ban, and even if he tried, it seems as though the general consensus in Congress is to ban it and keep it banned."

  • "I voted yes as I'm hoping factual sanity will be used for decisions in government rather than 'vote getting'. TikTok as been deemed a national security threat as it should since it can be reporting all sorts of information to China. Russia also recently used it in a disinformation campaign to influence Romania's Presidential election which they are 'redoing'. In addition to these marks against TikTok there is also the effect it's addictive properties are having on our people including children who often respond to peer pressure rather than logic and planning for the future. Rather than trying to fix or control it the better less risky solution is simply to ban it for all the dangers it presents. Communist China is NOT our friend."

"It makes sense that a company like ByteDance won't get someone to buy Tiktok on such short notice."

  • "I’m not sure I think it WILL, but I definitely think it SHOULD. Australia got it right. Social media (including TikTok) is causing a mental health crisis in our teens."

"I voted "yes" because TikTok avoiding being banned, according to this article, seems overly dependent on the vague promise of a known liar. The promises of someone who lies prolifically even by the standards of politicians hold little to no weight."

👎 No (54%) – "This sounds more like a bluff. Too many americans use this service. The risk/reward for the decision makers is not worth it. Better to wait until the service inevitably becomes less popular, then if they still wanted to, they could enact that "future updates" ban to essentially kill the platform in the States."

  • "In a nation founded on freedom, freedom will prevail. If it doesn't, then that should be a wakeup call. I also think it is irrelevant to ban or not to ban -- the audience is fickle and a new and better app will come along that will make TikTok obsolete."

"i feel like tiktok is such a big social media platform, even the presidential campaign used tiktok as a platform to gain voters, so i feel its too impactful to get rid of and was almost like a power move on trumps part"

  • "TikTok has become deeply embedded in American society. Additionally, the United States has a strong history of opposing the suppression of free speech, which would likely form a central argument if this issue were brought before the Supreme Court."

"I think TikTok is too big of a company with too many members and the fall out from China and TikTok's members would be huge. If it IS banned, it will just reopen under another name."
