"Our world has become such a black and white place. We lost our ability over the last 8 years to have constructive communication about our differences. As a result we have created angry people who want to act out and hurt others to make a point it's heart breaking that both were vets, struggling against the VA for help I understand the compounded frustration."
"If true that these are not connected, these are two separate motivations and ideologies. The Las Vegas suicide is an example of how some of our society has begun to believe that violence is an acceptable response to others' beliefs, opinions, and non-violent actions. This demonstrates a significant issue in a civil society if we want it to remain so. The New Orleans terrorist attack is a different problem, one of radical Islamic methods spreading into the West. We've seen this happen in Europe and now we'll see it more frequently here in the United States. This is violence and murder nominally in support of the cause of an Islamic empire spanning the world. Every attack like this, conducted by an American citizen sympathetic to the ISIS cause (or the cause of the terrorist group of choice, though ISIS are probably the big ones at the moment) represents an opportunity for the erosion of privacy rights for regular citizens, much like how every shooting done with a legally purchased weapon is a chance for the right to own weapons to be limited further. In addition, people will be more inclined to fear, and thus persecute in some fashion, whichever ethnic or religious group commits the attacks. Here, you're looking at the possibility of backlash against normal Muslims living in the States."
"This only sheds more light on the mental/psychological health crisis going on in this country, especially with military veterans and the lack of care they receive. It shows you that this country is more concerned with supply money to other countries to help fund their wars, than apply that money to help their own citizens. It only goes to show you that the cries for help by these people or others who suffer from psychological health issues and/or their families and friends go unheard and ignored. People will blame the health insurance companies, who by the way are required to follow guidelines put out by CMS and other state rules. Rules that impede them from actually helping those in need. So much finger pointing, but no one is accepting of the blame. One of these gentlemen who did this was originally going to kill his family, but decided no. He'd rather kill innocent people. He started to believe in the teachings of a terrorist group, who want nothing more than to destroy this country and others. Why??? My only guess is because no one cared. Time to wake up. Time we start working together, helping one another, respecting one another in this country; else these types of acts are going to continue. Let's start helping our veterans, who are the way they are because they followed orders. Let's start going back to honest values."
