👍 Support (39%) – "Under the Biden administration, migrants were let into the country without proper vetting and identification. There claims were all based on asylum. If they ware actually fleeing their home government, why weren’t they applying in the first country they entered? We are a country of laws which were ignored or broken by the past administration. It has cost the taxpayers of this country billions of our tax dollars in feeding, clothing and shelter for people who lied to get into our country."
"Immigration is a key component of America's economic and moral strength in the world. In order to keep the advantages of a liberal immigration policy, we need to closely guard our borders and oversee the selection of immigrants to prevent a nativist backlash and erosion of our quality of life."
👎 Oppose (45%) – "The Trump administration's plans are appalling, and are so clearly driven by xenophobia and racism. We need a saner policy, yes, but that should involve expanding legal paths for entry, employment, and ultimately citizenship."
"I'm still a believer that many cultures make up our beloved country. Scientists, artists, engineers, wordsmiths, doctors from different backgrounds have paved the way for what has been a miraculous country. We need to keep the door open for youth to bring fresh ideas."
↔️ Neutral (8%) – "It all a waste of time, just grandstanding for a select group of people. Immigration needs to be addressed and Congress has tried to do it, but neither sides wants the other side to win. Trump will be fighting lawsuits on many of these orders, something he is used to doing and may lose but can say he tried. I have no respect for anyone in Washington on either side of the aisle, because they only want to push their agenda and not work towards meaningful reform of any the laws. Politicians have kick this immigration can for almost 40 years, so long that no one remembers what it should look like or how to work together to stop the kicking!"
🤷♀️ Unsure/other (8%) – "I agree with tightening restrictions, but full on shutting people out restricts the minds that we could have right here in the US. Many immigrants, or foreign born and later-citizens, come from India, which makes up over 10% of our educated citizens who hold a degree. However, if we wish for the minds to come to us, we also need to consider the minds we sprout here in our own country. Many standards in America are below what we wish to bring in, so it will be interesting to see the change in National Education over the next four years. Harder doesn't always mean more growth, but the policies and enticements that may be offered could heavily encourage future students."
