Do you agree with the Trump administration’s decision to impose tariffs on Mexico, Canada, and China?

👍 Yes (13%) – "Yes, the tariffs might raise the price of a few things for the short term. But it's worth it, considering its long term benefit. The tariffs are designed to get those countries to actively stop the export of fentanyl ingredients into our nation. Instead of pumping money into a bunch of organizations and agencies who have only very limited success in fighting the fentanyl crisis here in our country, we'll cut off its supply before it gets to the United States. Seems more effective to me in saving lives."

👎 No (78%) – "The argument that tariffs will curb illegal drug flows into the US is ridiculous. While tariffs can help US companies in some situations, ultimately this is going to hit the pocketbooks of the average American.. a pocketbook that is already hurting. If Trump’s whole platform for reelection was to help make life more affordable and better for average Americans…this ain’t it."

  • "These tariffs are performative because if you believe it's because of fentanyl entering the US, the Canadians are resposible for less than 5% so how are these tariffs commensurate with that percentage? Too, interestingly there is really little way to appropriately gauge whether the fentanyl flow is decreased and thus, Trump can declare that he's "WON" with zero verifiable proof. Anticipate he'll say he's won as soon as WSJ and others convince him these tariffs are killing the US economy."

"Starting a tit for tat fight with our trading partners will only hurt the American people and make our already falling image in the rest of the world look even more petty and childish. Tariffs have a purpose in trade and a blanket tariff on our biggest trading partners is not it. If Trump wants to remove us from the global markets and cripple our trade, this is a great way to start."

  • "As a Canadian the tariffs are unjust because Canada is not the cause of the serious fentanyl crisis in the USA. Only a tiny portion of fentanyl was confiscated at the USA-Canada border in 2024. At least one hundred times as much comes from Mexico or China."

"Tariffs are too simple a "solution". In the modern economy every piece of the market is intertwined and the results here will be frustration and intended consequences rather than the reaction Trump wants. It will have no impact on his stated focus of reducing fentanyl."

🤷 Unsure/other (9%) – "If it accomplishes what Trump wants to accomplish, fine, but I am not convinced it will. Americans are tired of the inflation experienced under Biden's administration and I, for one, was hoping to see a dip in prices for food and other essentials."
