👍 Yes (31%) – "Since the tax code has been in place for years, you know the income it produces. Cutting spending is responsible action and needs to be done periodically - just like your household. Now, the only troubling part is the assumption of business growth that produces more income. Perhaps that's also covered by new tariff dollars not previously seen. So, overall, it is a plan back to solvency."
"Yes, and the child tax credit should be expanded even further. We wonder why people aren't having kids anymore, but the truth is, we just can't afford it. Anything that we can do to make things more affordable for young Americans has my vote."
👎 No (59%) – "If this were a household budget, cutting your income without cutting your expenses to match or exceed that income decrease is a recipe for eventual bankruptcy. The national debt is large enough without enacting budgets that will only exacerbate the problem."
"The expectation that economic growth will make up for the larger deficit being created by the bill is certainly a bold claim, given the last few days of tariffs and the market responses. Now, if the tariffs are paused and the economy is able to grow, it won't be as bad; even so, I don't think the existing exonomic conditions allow for growth at the required scale. I think we're going to see an increase in the debt."
"The deficit *is* a problem, but we’ve repeatedly proven time and time again that cutting taxes does not promote enough economic growth to make up for the loss of revenue. Continuing to do the same thing while expecting a different result is idiocy."
🤷 Unsure/other (10%) – "I’m too young to pay taxes yet, so I’m not familiar with the process (either the old way or how it currently is). But if the opposition comes because of concerns about a government deficit, then I have to wonder why they were okay giving Ukraine billions of dollars under Biden. It seems a little nonsensical to me that they were fine spending that money on non-American citizens but they’re not okay with leaving it in the hands of Americans. Still, I don’t know much or really anything about how taxes work, so I guess only time will show whether the tax cuts matter or not."
