Stronger (66%) – "If I disagree with a company's policies, I would like to be able to stop using and/or purchasing that company's products. With Big Tech I've found that really hard to do because there are so few alternatives. Companies like Google and Meta have their advantages in convenience and consistency - just as Ma Bell did back in the day - but monopolies never favor consumers and can in fact harm them."
"Any product where unilateral arbitrary suppression of one discourse effectively eliminates that discourse is a monopoly and should be dismantled as such. The technocracy seems to think hegemony is acceptable in the name of efficiency and ignores - or would like you to ignore - the social peril of this narrow vision."
"I believe that it is too easy for tech companies to avoid antitrust action because the technology is an industry that is unlike any industry that was around when these policies were established. New legislation should be put in place to ensure that tech companies are subject to the same restrictions as any other company."
Weaker (15%) – "We need strong companies to continue building the top quality products we have today. Without them we would be a decade further behind is software and hardware development and security"
Unsure/other (19%) – "In general, I don't like when companies have monopolies anywhere but on the other hand, I feel like the products/services with the companies mentioned got big because they work. If they weren't good or effective, people wouldn't use them. Take Chrome for example, it's a preferred browser for a lot of people because it syncs across devices, is the most user friendly, customizable, and integrates with other google products. That's exactly why people use it."
