How do you feel about NYC residents electing state Rep. Zohran Mamdani as their Democratic candidate for mayor?

It’s a good choice (32%) – "NYCers need someone who will be on their side on a lot of these issues that Mamdanhi is championing. Unfortunately they have been cast aside in recent years and left to fend for themselves. Cost of living issues are big in NYC and are increasingly on the rise across the US (the egg prices!!!) Republican posturing means they are scared that he is speaking out on issues that are relevant to the everyday man, not just the oligarchs. I think national level Dems should not shy away, we need to embrace those on the "far left" as well as the center. Although, come on, fulfilling basic human needs is far left extremism?"

  • "I live in NY and voted for Mamdani because he has clearly outlined plans to help the city and protect its most vulnerable. Cuomo also ran a campaign that in the last month was seemingly also based on telling us what Mamdani would do, only trying to frame it in the worst possible ways. From a candidate already burdened by scandal, running a negative campaign like that really only further pushed me away."

"The trust fund lefties will get what they voted for good and hard and maybe evaluate their perceived realities. I feel sorry for the sane and the poor who will be disproportionately affected by his policies."

It’s a bad choice (36%) – "As an economist, I can state with certainty that socialism has never worked and will never work because there are too many free-loaders. NY is headed down a dark path that will not end well if this radical is elected. Everyone wants free or cheap things but someone has to pay- who will that be?? Where is all of his "investment" money come from? Expect a mass exodus from the city if this guy is elected."

  • "His voters think the money for his proposals comes from someplace other than their pockets. If they knew the cost of his ideas they wouldn't be so excited about paying for them."

"This candidate has no executable plan to pay for all of the socialist concepts he is pushing, but more importantly, he is a true antisemite who can NOT be put in charge of the city with the largest jewish population outside of Israel."

  • "The obvious answer is that socialism is a failure as it runs against good human nature and accentuates the bad plus he was on the side of evil Hamas in their conflict with Israel. The puzzling part is why the 'well to do' voted for him if they became successful through capitalism and their own work as he'll be redistributing their wealth; although not doing that and 'taking' more from the middle class and poor would explain it which is what usually seems to happen with socialism. Like with communism, the rich get insanely rich and powerful and everyone else stands in bread lines."

It’s too early to tell (22%) – "I'm a pretty stauch capitalist but I'm also a pretty staunch believer in the voting process. If this is who New Yorkers want, then they'll have to deal with the consequences, good and bad alike. If the man can govern, let him govern, and yelling about how he's evil and/or a stain on the American republic before he's really done anything isn't helpful. Neither is hailing him as a savior. We'll have to see."

  • "It's up to the Democratic party to follow-up on his victory by recognizing the fact that the people of NYC have acknowledged that the parties heiracrchy needs to evolve away from the old politicians to a younger set of politicians who understand the world that they are governing in is evolving, and that in order for the government to address the needs of the younger generations, they need the younger generations to lead the way."

Other (10%) – "The NYC election process isn't the traditional highest vote ranked and you can only choose one - rather you rank multiple choices. While some say then every vote counts, I'd say this is an example of how allowing multiple votes can lead to unexpected, and perhaps undesired results. But hey, they voted for that system. If they don't like it, they can return it to the more traditional model."
