What are your thoughts on the separate peace proposals from Russia and Ukraine?

"It would be good to see the war end but Russia should NOT be rewarded for being the aggressor. If Ukrainian territory is lost it should be balanced somewhat by Russian territory lost. Sanctions would be a great idea if they don't agree as it would almost certainly drive their economy, which supports the war, right into the ground without support from China and North Korea. We or Europe could also provide them with better weapons to strike far inside Russia and encourage revolt. Without nuclear weapons they would already be a paper tiger and if they did go nuclear that would spell the end of Russia as the world would not stand for it. Doing that might even wake up the spinless Europeans."

  • "Donald Trump should not be part of the process. The United Nations should lead the effort, with European NATO nations speaking with one voice. Trump is an unwitting Putin asset. Trump has consistently undermined Ukraine at every opportunity. This proposed "land swap" is Sudetenland 2.0."

"Russia should absolutely withdraw all it's forces back to the boundaries that existed before this mess started. They are the aggressors here and are no better than the Nazi regime of WWII."

  • "This has been an unfair issue since the beginning. Russia started it, Ukraine should finish it and their proposal should be used. Give Ukraine back its land and leave them alone to remember those killed and get the country back up and running. I think Russia's learned that they're not the "Big Shots" or can take advantage of anyone they want in the way they've always thought they were/could!"

"Can you say Anschluss, can you say Sudetenland? Putin is following Hitler's playbook. Claim the area and dare the rest of the world to do or defend against. So far he has been emboldened by the world's so-so reaction, including the so called great negotiator Trump who can’t come up with anything but concessions to Putin. Hitler took it as weakness, so does Putin. The real answer is to immediately add Ukraine to NATO and send NATO troops to defend the border, at the same time providing Ukraine with weapons capable of hitting Moscow, St. Petersburg and other major Russian locations. Except for the hushed up loss of 100k troops, the people of Russia have been fairly immune to the effects of the war. Time for that to end. Let Russians get a taste of hat they’ve put Ukrainians through."

  • "Russia was the aggressor and though the took "some" land, Ukraine has held them off admirably. Russia lots many more troops, the lines should be drawn back to where they were when Russia decided to invade Ukraine. Ukraine should also be brought into NATO immediately - instead of Europeans just running their mouths, take some action and let Ukraine into NATO."

"Any peace proposal agreed to without Ukrainian assent is eerily similar to the Munich accords that gave the Sudetenland to Germany without the consent of Czechoslovakia. Mere appeasement. The Ukrainians should be at the table. No negotiations without a ceasefire."

  • "The three leaders all have different imperatives. Zalinsky needs to please the people of Ukraine and continue to have their support, thus he needs to keep/retake the most territory possible. He can live with a ceasefire that just stops the fighting now and then begins negotiations, but ultimately he needs some of the land back, probably most of it. Putin needs to retain the support of the military, they are burdened with the loss of manpower and to a certain extent a loss of “face”, the economy is in bad shape too. Putin might be able to live with a ceasefire but he needs some sort of “win” so his Generals stay behind him – is this more territory, a promise that Ukraine can’t join NATO, monetary consideration? What satisfies the Generals? Trump wants to be seen as the peacemaker, he tends to think of land disputes as transactional, if Canada becomes a state, they will have the big, beautiful Trump economy, if Greenland is a US possession their economy will boom, etc. He doesn’t understand this fighting and killing in Ukraine (neither do I), also he would very much like the Noble Peace Prize. The details don’t matter to him, as long as he is noted as the peacemaker."
