How do you feel about the Trump admin’s new chip export deal with Nvidia and AMD?

Support (32%) – "Everyone keeps forgetting the bigger picture. The US will debt spiral unless the national debt is curtailed. Slash every extra expense and bring in every extra dollar or none of the rest will matter if the entire economy implodes."

  • "Only because the chips being exported are suboptimal and not as powerful as those available in the US. However, it's important to remember that those chips could be reverse engineered and improved on the other side."

"I totally support this deal. It makes sense to impose a pseudo tariff on tech exports to a confrontational nation that might exploit them for purposes of war against us or our allies. Taiwan is coming, and we need to be prepared. We should use the billions generated by this deal to develop counter measures for our military should we face China in a confrontation over Taiwan. Alternatively we could use it to further reduce our deficit. In any event, we need to run our country more like a business, in partnership with the private sector. I applaud Trump's measures at negotiation for tariffs and other deals that fill the USA coffers. It sure beats giving the store away as the Dems have done for decades."

Oppose (45%) – "I guess we use “Revenue Sharing” as a new term for bribes. In the long run being an isolationist will be detrimental to the US. Does anyone wonder what Trump may be getting under the table, since he has used the office to build his family finances. His family of executives seem to be in the same country where he travels securing resorts or golf clubs or other business."

  • "This makes it very clear that it was never about national security, it was only ever about money. Now companies are outright negotiating their bribes with the US government."

"This will set a precedent for future arrangements for possibly ALL companies wanting to export products. It also goes against the decades old plank of the Republican party to treat business with a "hands off" approach."

  • "I'm a little perplexed how a 15 percent tithe could be considered voluntary. That's a tax. Sure, maybe the government isn't going to arrest anybody if they don't pay it, but they'll stop allowing exports. That's coercion, the use of force or threats of one flavor or another to persuade someone to do something. And if it's a tax, that is, in fact, illegal."

"Cool, the American people are making money to support our crazy spending level, but how are these deals different from the Mafia demanding a piece of the action for "protection"? Seems to me that this violates free trade principles. Feels like this could quickly flip to domestic trade and is one step away from bribing politicians and bureaucrats to execute on their job. That's already to prevalent in our major cities and now we are setting the stage for the federal level. Dangerous and questionable."

Unsure/other (23%) – "Conservatives are going to say it’s a stroke of genius, and that our government should be run as a business. Liberals will say it’s outrageous and unethical only helping the rich get richer. I’m learning to sit back and watch it all unfold while I enjoy my grandkids and what really matters in my day to day life that is incredibly short, instead of spouting an opinion about something I really don’t understand from either side. It’s much easier to quarterback from the couch on Monday than to make an ill advised prediction on Saturday."

  • "This could possibly be a good idea? On its face, seems like a way for the federal government to earn additional income without directly taxing citizens. Which I would generally be in favor of. But it's Trump. So I'm not going to be at all surprised, if this gets implemented is the dumbest way imaginable."
