How do you feel about Trump’s move to fire Fed governor Lisa Cook over allegations of mortgage fraud?

Support (23%) – "This is not a parking ticket we're talking about. It is a financial crime by someone who heads a financial agency. This is big. While she votes to keep the interest rates high, meaning we all have to pay more on interest on our credit card and mortgage debt, she carves out an advantage for herself by declaring her second property a primary residence, so she gets a favorable interest rate. A classic case of 'there a rules for thee, but not for me'. This is unacceptable."

  • "Those in charge of our monetary system should be squeaky clean when it comes their own personal finances, otherwise we can’t trust them. Mortgage fraud is a crime and she should remove herself from office, as she hasn’t, Trump is well within his right to ensure the proper workings of our governmental organizations. And yes, the fed is a government organization."

Oppose (66%) – "I think that Trump and his supporters are looking for short term political gains at the expense of long-term disasters. I still remember vividly, the housing crash of 2009. We need checks and balances to make sure something like this does not happen again."

  • "If she is convicted of a crime, she should be fired. She is accused of a crime, so should not be fired. Also, it's dangerous to have the president fire anyone from the Fed. It is a threat to the success of our economy."

"Trump is overstepping here, using the mortgage fraud allegations as a paper thin pretext for the political move this firing is. It's richly hypocritical in light of Trump's own shady business practices and history of filing false and misleading applications on a far larger scale."

  • "When a leader gets rid of or tries to tarnish a persons reputation and does it to a wide variety of individuals in order to maintain an indisputable power position it is wrong. Most of the times that leader is referred to as a dictator. Our system of checks and balances is getting eroded by fear of intimidation and retribution."

"Proof. What are the specifics and they should provide the opportunity for Cook to present evidence to dispute the claim. You can’t just fire someone because they don’t agree with you. If there is truly cause, then she should be released from her position."

  • "So she gets fired for mortgage fraud by a convicted criminal who somehow still became President even though he is a convicted criminal? The most outrageous thing about any and every thing he does and says is that if the law was just and the upholders of that law were responsible we would not be dealing with this hell right now, because he wouldn’t be President. Good for her for fighting back. At least a few people do."

Unsure/other (11%) – "I don't know the legality of this decision, but at least we're going to get some clarification in the courts for future cases. If there's one thing we know Trump is accomplishing very well, it is finding out just how much he can push the line."
