In general, do you support or oppose President Trump’s handling of crime so far in his second term?

Support (34%) – "People should not be afraid to leave their homes to go to the grocery store in broad daylight, especially women and our seniors. Crime is out of control, and criminals no longer fear getting caught. Thankfully, President Trump is protecting Americans. Why would anyone be opposed to arresting criminals? Why would anyone be against protecting our most vulnerable citizens?"

  • "If you don’t want less crime, no matter what it takes, you’re unreachable. Anyone who would take a stand against fighting crime and making our world safer is truly suffering from serious Trump Derangement Syndrome. Those kicking and screaming against this (liberals) will continue to lose support and elections."

"Yes, 100%, but it’s not a hard sell when democrats permit and even encourage crime. Theft under $500? That doesn’t count. Walk away. “Taking over” city blocks? No issues. We’ll let you hold the neighborhood captive for a few months. Burning and looting cities? It’s all good. You have a right to “protest.” Anyone who made a modicum of effort to decrease crime after the tragedy that has become the democrat party would be favorable. Believe it or not, people (all people, white and minorities) want the ability to raise their families in clean, safe towns, and it is NOT racist to enforce laws. I’m all for what Trump is doing."

Oppose (56%) – "Instead of deploying the national guard which feels very much like a police-state action, changes should be made to support and enhance local police forces that are accountable to the local government and people. Without investing in sustainable support at the local level, any gains from national guard enforcement are either short term or require the military to take over local policing."

  • "The utilization of the national guard has not been without benefit. But Trump's use of ICE and abuse of his powers in this and every other matter have brought me worry, He may be starting with just criminals but the way he is ruthlessly ripping into the subject makes me fear what he may do to people who he labels AS criminals. Overall he is too cutthroat and while the results are positive with his national guard his use of ICE has been and always will be wrong."

"Crime in the majority of major cities has seen significant drops. This is due to cities making use of programs designed to both deter crime but also programs designed to fight poverty. The notion that crime is just due to “bad people” is simplistic. This militarization of cities is designed to control “blue” regions of the country, increase arrests of Black and brown people and take the focus off the areas where crime truly is a problem, which is red states and cities."

  • "Federal troops should not be used for law enforcement except under the most dire circumstances. This move puts in place the precedent that can now be used no matter how minor the situation or even in cases where one person believes it is needed. Remember the Vietnam war protests. It won’t take much to have another Kent State if you put weapons or war in the hands of young men. This can also erode public confidence and pride in the people in the armed forces."

"Where do I begin: It's all smoke and mirrors, based on lies. And as usual its all theater and not sustainable. Slash and burn only works for a short time. It's obvious if we have more law enforcement presence there is less crime. That is basic math. But how about more effectively we allocate the same dollars to growing actual local police departments that helps us long term."

  • "I'm aghast people think he's doing good work on crime, frankly. Homeland Security Operations has been mostly disbanded, with all their work on human trafficking, crimes against children, and drrug networks falling by the wayside so they can perform immigration arrests. High profile cases have been dismissed at his behest. Investigations into fraud performed by companies his donors own have been quietly dismissed, shut down, or shunted into different directions. All those people convicted of the January 6th rioting and insurrection were released and a more than average number of them have now gone out and been re-arrested for other crimes. Sure, he's cracking down on some kinds of crime, but only the ones that benefit him either personally or in the polls."

Unsure/other (10%) – "I think it's great if it's working to help reduce crime but also what's the long game plan? Are we forever paying (which is not cost efficient) for these guardsmen to stay here forever? What happens when they leave? Unless we solve the root issues I see the problems coming back. This is might be helping now but I struggle to see how it's just not pushing the issues farther into the future."
