Which of the following best describes your opinion of the threat posed by climate change?

It’s a major threat (73%) – "Scientists are the experts, and they say that climate patterns have changed over the past several decades, with the emission of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere driven mainly by the use of fossil fuels. I believe the scientists, not the president."

  • "We're already seeing the effects of climate change as shorelines are being flooded, ice caps are melting, and ice fields are receding, and we're seeing the negative effects rising temperatures have on wildlife and agriculture. We are living in an ecosystem so delicately balanced that a shift in conditions such as temperature favoring a particular species (say, a type of bacteria or insect) can have disastrous cascading effects."

"Climate change has always been a problem for not only animals, but most likely the health of humans as well. The extinctions that are occurring because of the poorly behaved PEOPLE is the reason that our world might be unlivable in many many many years from now when the people who damaged it (us) will be dead, and those living then will be forced to live with it if possible."

  • "Clean and accessible air, water, and arable land are essential to life. Whether man-made or not, whether exacerbated by humans or not, the trends are clear and our way of life is facing an existential threat. Maybe not today, but in twenty years? Thirty? A hundred? We'll be making some hard decisions."

"I'm more of a believer in cyclical climate change. However, man is definitely affecting the rate. Not sure what threat level it is. Higher for some than others."

  • "At this point, the evidence is starting to show itself all around us. It's not longer possible for anyone in their right mind to ignore the threat that climate change--and our handling of it as a species-- poses to this planet. The Trump administration is doing what it always does and is mishandling serious issues in such a blatantly and objectively terrible way that it almost seems like he's deliberately handing all of the US's international influence to China."

"Climate change is decimating the environment and negatively contributing to the overall health and wellbeing of the vast majority of people. It’s a major issue that needs to be addressed sooner rather than later if we’re to stave off the even more severe effects of climate change!"

It’s a minor threat (14%) – "Studies show that during the Middle Ages, the earth was warmer than it is today. There are fluctuations in temperature and that's nothing to panic about. Nevertheless, because of all the emissions that today's world generates, it's worth thinking a bit more about it and being reasonably cautious."

  • "I don't know if 'minor' is really the word I would use to describe it, but I did want something milder than 'major'. I think climate change is real, and happening, and will have consequences. I also think it's not as end-all be-all as it is often painted as. I think working to cut emissions is a worthy goal, but any climate change actions must be paired with wisdom and knowledge of how it's affecting people on a day to day basis."

It’s not a threat (13%) – "Many people don't look to history to inform their view of the current state. Earth has naturally gone through warming and cooling stages for thousands of years and it is arrogant of us to assume our existence is the only reason why things are the way they are. Do I think humans have had NO impact on climate? No, absolutely not. However, I think overestimating our impact and the meager attempts to curtail or slow any changes are laughable; the climate will change regardless."

  • "I am no scientist but all this climate stuff, for years, seems to be political, not environmental. Which makes it difficult to believe anything anyone says, no matter which side they are on. What I do know is that this earth has gone through many cycles and many different climates and none of that had a darn thing to do with human beings at all. I believe the earth is just still changing and still evolving and to an extent it doesn’t matter what humans do, we cannot change its trajectory."
