Approve (31%) – "There are always going to be things I disagree with the Supreme Court on. However, I genuinely believe that the conservatives and liberals alike on the court are trying to interpret the law correctly. I think there's a lot of ignorance in our country about the fact that the court is not ruling on whether or not something is moral or right, but simply on whether or not it is constitutional and lawful. If we don't like our laws, that's a case for our state and federal congresses. If we don't like the court's interpretation of the laws, that's different. But the law is an extremely complex thing. If you don't like a decision of the court, I challenge you to read their decisions for yourself. It should be clear that in the supreme court, EVERY decision is highly nuanced and complicated. Just ask yourself when a decision is made: How else could this interpretation of the law potentially be applied in situations where I might not like it (the other side of the party, etc.)?"
"SCOTUS is not supposed to do what is popular they are supposed to follow the constitution. They apply laws independent of party. Overall they have done that. They are part of our checks and balances system."
Disapprove (62%) – "Aside from the partisan bias of the 6-3 majority, the deeper overall problem is the court failing to act to rein in executive branch power. Checks and balances are integral to this country's system of government, and we are seeing both congressional and judicial power being usurped under this presidential administration."
"SCOTUS seems inclined to treat the Constitution as a suggestion rather than the abiding law of the land. Precedence only seems applicable for them if it agrees with their personal principles or that of the current president. Excepting the more liberal judges, SCOTUS seems bent on taking us back to a time prior to women's rights, gay marriage and even interracial marriage."
"One of the primary concerns is the use of the "shadow docket". I believe it is being misused by making "snap judgement" decisions, to allow or disallow some of the cases brought before them. This creates a sometimes not so logical temporary solution, that may be affirmed or overturned when the issue is later scheduled on the court docket. To make a judgement of a most important national or constitutional issue without hearing facts or legal points of the case is, to say the least, not thought out very well. The Court has also been very beneficial to Donald Trump's attempts to bypass the Constitution, the rule of law, existing precedents and historical norms that this country has thrived on. Am I envisioning the Bill of Rights etched onto sandstone while the Supreme Court's decisions have eroded them to a point that those rights are becoming illegible? I pray for my country."
Unsure/other (7%) – "Knee jerk reactions to this question will prove just how politically divided we are. Everyone thinks they know what goes on inside the minds of individuals on the Supreme Court, based on who nominates the justices. And although this is increasingly more than likely the case, the fact is, the courts are supposed to decide blindly based on the law, but more and more we have justices who more resemble activists than interpreters."
