Extend them (64%) – "Healthcare is a huge problem for young people in America. The American dream, between housing, goods, and healthcare is no longer attainable for our children. For sure Obamacare has some major flaws and needs to be fixed, but until a fix is in place, we should subsidize the programs."
"We need affordable healthcare to be available to all. When people can't afford even routine care, conditions that are preventable or treatable turn into things that destroy lives and can end up bankrupting both them and draining society's resources far more than providing universal health care ever would. The subsidies are only a band aid on a flawed system, but it's the least we can do right now."
"As a 63-year-old individual who is self-employed, the subsidies are one of the reasons I am able to do the work. Without them, I would be forced to leave my work and seek employment. I'm not alone. Millions are in the same situation that I (and my wife) am in."
Let them expire (28%) – "Subsidies provide money to the insurance companies. It is needed at the local level where medical care is performed. Let the people decide how to use their money. Allow everyone to have a Major medical savings account and spend accordingly."
"Yes, people should have access to affordable healthcare, but subsidies are not the way. Economics 101 - when more dollars chase a product or service, that service's price increases to the point where the additional money is consumed. That's inflation and exactly why the price of healthcare has skyrocketed. If you want affordable healthcare, you need to stop the consolidation of healthcare companies, encourage competition, and prohibit lawsuits except in some gross neglect situations. It isn't quick, but it is the only way to drive the cost down and keep it down."
Unsure/other (8%) – "The credits are a band-aid on the real problem. The problem is Congress waits until the very last minute to do everything (no good crisis can go to waste), so there is no time to properly debate, vote on and then have implemented a replacement to the ACA as some are calling for. The middle ground is to extend the subsidies, but do it in a way that forces the real issues to be addressed. Have them phase out over a period of months toward the end of what ever period is agreed to (I would argue for no more than a year). In that time, have the reasoned debate over how to repair or replace the ACA in a way that will actually encourage competition, reduce fraud and punish individuals and companies that abuse the system."
