In general, do you agree with the new federal immigration changes enacted in response to last week’s National Guard shooting in D.C.?

Yes (33%) – "Yes, this is what we have done historically. It's only under Biden that we opened the borders and stopped vetting anyone. I remember other presidents, during my time, Reagan, Clinton, Bush and Obama doing this. Our priority should be our own citizens. Somewhere over the past five or six years this has been lost or stigmatized, which is baffling to me. Why would a country exist if not to care for and prioritize the people who live there?"

  • "Although I know many people will disagree, our country's history of loose borders is one of our highest security threats. No decision is going to be popular with everyone but when things aren't working and Americans are being killed, the whole system needs to come under intense scrutiny. That's exactly what was changed last week and what I hope is carried out to the fullest. For years people have been let into this country with improper vetting or under the guise of seeking asylum and our lack of a backbone has led us to this point. It's time to make it extremely difficult to enter America and unbearable to stay if you weren't welcome in the first place."

"The uncontrolled immigration has gone on for way to long, I believe the DNC was using it to permantly change the voter base towards immigrants voting for them. I’m from the southwest and have seen the problems uncontrolled immigration causes. The lies we were told throughout the last forty years that we need “immigration reform” was shattered when the current president closed the border, and just started enforcing existing laws. You cannot have a country without secure borders."

No (61%) – "One very bad person did a horrific thing. To punish thousands, if not millions, of others for his action is just wrong. Many of the Afghans applying for asylum were our supporters while we were in Afghanistan and helped and saved our military from injury and death. Trump's directive is just not morally correct."

  • "This shooting is tragic and horrific. However, I don’t believe the livelihood of 233,000 people should be threatened because of the actions of an individual, especially this early on into the investigation of motives."

"It's horrible this happened. It absolutely shouldn't have happened and obviously needs to be dealt with. That being said, this is not the way to deal with it. The man who shot them, and potentially any suspicious acquaintances, should be jailed or deported but it still shouldn't happen without an investigation. That is the basis of our entire justice system, innocent until proven guilty. Not only that, but punishing literally everyone, even those who have been permanent residents or refugees for years is not necessary. It's like if one person cheats on a test and so everyone in the school now fails the test, no matter when they took it or if they haven't even taken it yet. That's not a consequence, that's just an excuse to do what they want."

  • "This is simply an overreaction to one person’s actions that are not reflective of the vast majority. Even our own American born citizens do radical things. Are we going to dump all citizens in other countries because of the actions of the few?"

"Generalizing an entire group of people based on the actions of one person is incomprehensible and incredibly insulting. The overwhelming majority of mass shooters are white, native-born men. Why not restrict all white native-born men’s access to firearms? That would prevent more than half of mass shootings. A Cato Institute risk analysis, published in April 2025, of 298 U.S. mass shooters (public, high‑fatality events) found that about 85.6% were native‑born and 14.4% were foreign‑born, meaning the vast majority of mass shooters are native‑born Americans. Focusing on foreign-born people does not address the big problem, which is the availability of high-powered firearms in the USA. We need gun control NOW."

  • "I believe these changes were part of this government’s planned agenda all along, and this event has just provided a convenient pretext for the administration. “Remigration” has been a white nationalist talking point for a long time."

Unsure/other (6%) – "It seems overboard, but Joe Biden and the previous administration were terribly wrong in opening the gates to unvetted immigrants and phony asylum seekers."
