Very likely (36%) – "I have owned hybrid vehicles for the last ten years and just bought a new one. I am still too nervous to get fully EV due to the long distances that I drive and the need to gas up quickly, but if charging time decreased, I would consider going fully EV"
"I bought a RAV4 hybrid 2 years ago and it's great. But until it takes the same amount of time to charge my car as it does to fill up the gas tank, I will not be converting to an EV or plug-in hybrid. I also live in a colder state, and cold weather greatly impacts your hybrid/EV battery and mileage. My parents' county is rural and has just two charging stations, so that doesn't help either. There's a lot for the industry to figure out before most people will consider making the switch."
Somewhat likely (26%) – "Hybrid, yes I would consider it under the right circumstances. Full EV, no, I'd rather not. Maybe if I own a few hybrids and have great experiences then I'd take on an EV but not until then."
"The choice of vehicle is and has been based on two factors; will it perform the duties I need it to perform in a manner same or better than my current vehicle and is the cost of operation the same or better than my current vehicle. Nothing else matters when you boil it down to the "why do you have a vehicle in the first place." I don't buy a vehicle to improve the environment -- production for any type of vehicle will always produce more polution than not producing it in the first place. You buy a vehicle to perform a desired function."
Not at all likely (35%) – "Ever since the government pushed for everyone to own an EV I asked myself "is it just me or has common sense left the building?" Unless I was to buy an EV exclusively for transportation to work where I would charge it exclusively at my home, there is not enough charging infrastructure plus the time to charge vs fill your tank with gas is prohibitive for most. To make it even worse we keep hearing about how fast the technology is changing and it makes you wonder if I bought an EV today how long is it relevant and what is the resale value? Bottom line: the government and industry needed to invest heavily in charging infrastructure BEFORE the push started."
"We don't have the infrastructure to support them. They manufacturing process for them is actually more toxic to our environment than a standard combustion engine is, particularly if we continue to make progress on fuel efficiency."
Unsure/other (3%) – "I would like to say that I would consider it, but where we live has extended periods of freezing weather and very few charging stations. We also rent, so we are limited in our ability to modify our home to better accommodate charging set-up."
