Support (15%) – "The acquisition of Greenland is vital to a wide range of interests for the United States. This administration is continuing a long tradition, dating back to Jefferson, of acquiring territory through a peaceful means, proposing to compensate the residents of Greenland, as well as the nation of Denmark. This is exactly the same manner in which the US acquired the territory of Alaska and the Louisiana Purchase. Modern pundits are opposed to this move, largely because it was proposed by Trump. They refuse to see the security and resources that would be made available by such an acquisition. They are the embodiment of the old adage, "Cut off your nose to spite your face.""
Oppose (81%) – "The states security goals do not require US ownership of Greenland, so it seems like this weird push for control is driven by some combination of ego and greed for the profit that could follow. Meanwhile the cost of tariffs is born by American consumers and businesses as always, and we are jeopardizing NATO and our strongest alliances with Europe."
"1. Greenland clearly isn’t interested. 2. His American first policy is making America last in the eyes of the world. Americans will bear the brunt of these tariffs. 3. No one has even mentioned if it were for sale, how much it would cost. Ultimately, we have too many problems in America that need to be dealt with before this ridiculous situation. Release the Epstein files."
"The US already has a pretty good deal with Greenland. We have a military base and the option for more. We have mineral rights deals. Sure - acquiring Greenland makes financial and defensive sense. I don't think it's worth throwing yet another tantrum on a world wide scale, but I don't think the idea is as outright stupid as some people think it is. But, as always, the way the president is going about it - being a bully, threatening violence unless he gets his way, sending petulant text messages to world leaders... now Europe can't back down. They have to stand together and they have to stand up to the bully, even if it's financially hard for them in the short term."
"We have numerous closed military bases already on Greenland. Why not just reopen these if we need more military presence? Greenland is already our partner in NATO. It makes no sense to alienate our allies when there is already a way to have the defenses this administration says it needs."
Unsure/other (4%) – "This one has me stumped. As an independent, I always try to look past the partisan noise. Even with reading numerous articles about this, and looking (briefly) into the history around Greenland and past presidents trying to control it, I can't figure out if it's brilliant or insane. I guess only time will tell."
