Support (14%) – "It is refreshing to see that government is getting back to the basics. It isn't there to be a social wealth redistribution machine. Security/defense, set rules for a level playing field, infrastructure (roads/bridges), and justice are the fundamental reasons for its existence and the only services we should expect. Everything else becomes the responsibilities of the citizens to self fund - charities, social programs, scientific research, drug research, travel to the moon - you want it, then fund it from your pocket."
Oppose (81%) – "If the president and his administration are concerned with cutting the deficit it makes zero sense to cut programs (science, research, education, etc) which help propel economic growth and a much lower cost than defense. If we stop interfering with other countries our defense budget would be ample to maintain."
"Given what we've seen out of the president and the DoD this last 15 months, I don't want to give them a penny more than their previous year's budget. And that they cut scientific research and environmental protection to do it? Huge red flags. As to the small business cuts...I work in the fraud prevention/enforcement agency, and maybe I'm jaded, but there are a ton of people taking advantage of these programs. The SBA should be given more power and personnel to authenticate their participants, not have their money and personnel removed."
"I think the entire budget should be cut by 30% and the federal government should shrink its domestic responsibilities. I think since the founding of the republic the federal govt has only slightly declined after wars . . but other than that it has simply grown. The key problem is that govt is occupied by people who think govt is the solution."
We need a balanced budget. Why are we increasing spending without increasing taxes to cover for it. That just causes inflation. Then to spend it all on the military? What, so we could go lose another dumb war?"
Unsure/other (5%) – "I am not sure of it's long term benefits. I would like individual states to take on a larger share of responsibility in caring personally for those who are in financial, etc. need than they have for a long time. They know their people and can meet needs in a way that the federal govt cannot."
