It’s one of the top issues (33%) – "It’s one of the worst issues we have in our society right now. Everyone is speaking of violence against the other side and there is little demonstration of coming together to argue for arguments sake only. Civil discord is no longer the norm and this has to be addressed."
"People are so divided along partisan lines that they forgot to see each other’s humanity - people cheer or shout hoax when someone on the “other” side is a victim of political violence . We need to get back to at least being able to see and respect each other as human beings or we are truly doomed as a society."
It’s a pretty big issue (49%) – "I am concerned as people feel additionally ignore by their representatives and inflammatory rhetoric circulates online that these events will only increase."
"I was a lifelong Democrat. In recent years, tI've seen extremism on both sides, really, but with regards to violence, the left seem to be far worse. When a Republican wins, they "protest," but the protests are really quite violent. This extremism spurs mentally ill, violent people, to act, yet the politicians keep egging it on. It's to the point where, after 30 years of being a Democrat, I switched to Independent. I wish both sides would just do better. This is ridiculous."
"1. Political violence is a subset of far more widespread gun violence. There are so many shootings, they barely make a ripple on local news. The easy availability of guns & ammo makes gun violence a permanent part of our culture. Until sensible gun laws are enacted and enforced, this will not change. 2. Mental illness treatment has essentially been defunded in the United States. Our growing homeless problem is exploding because the government fails to meet the needs of those suffering from mental illness. Ignoring a problem does not make it go away."
It’s a minor issue (11%) – "It captures headlines, but political violence in America is a relatively rare occurrence. Domestic violence is a much bigger issue."
It’s not an issue (7%) – "The issue of political violence is just the effect of the most derisive and negative parties ever to be in power in this country. Trump and his entire administration and those Republicans that support his hateful rhetoric are directly responsible for all of the political violence in recent years. People likely feel as if they have no choice since their representatives will not represent them, but only represent themselves and their money."
