The US economy added 256,000 new jobs in March, the Department of Labor reported on Friday, bringing the unemployment rate down to 3.5% – slightly above a five-decade low reached in January.

Some more highlights:

  • The labor force participation rate, which measures the share of Americans working or looking to work, surpassed pre-pandemic levels for the first time at 62.6%.
  • The unemployment rate for Black Americans hit its lowest point on record at 5.0%.

🤖🏥 (More) Stats of the Day: 90% = the percentage of questions on the US medical licensing exam that can be correctly answered by OpenAI’s GPT-4, according to Harvard computer scientist and physician Dr. Isaac Kohane. That’s up from GPT-3.5’s around 60% score on the exam.
