Seriously, who’s doing the PR for marine biologists? Like, it’s so specific. It’d be like a seven year old saying they wanted to be a foot doctor.
If you or your family have any information as to how the Marine Biologist Industrial Complex began, please do reach out.
And now, as always, whether it’s a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday, THE NEWS.

🗣🌐 Dose of Discussion: A 360° Look at a Hot-Button Issue | | The charges against former President Trump, explained | Images: Truth Social | DOJ | On Friday, the DOJ unsealed an indictment against former President Donald Trump that accuses him of illegally storing and hiding classified materials at his Mar-a-Lago residence after leaving office. It marks the first time in US history that a former president has been charged with a federal crime.
The 44-page indictment, which follows a six-month investigation by DOJ Special Counsel Jack Smith, relates to more than 100 classified documents recovered by the FBI as part of its search of Mar-a-Lago last August.
⚖️ So, what are the charges?... Federal prosecutors are accusing Trump of initially refusing to turn over the documents after a request from the National Archives in 2021, then later directing his personal aide to move boxes of classified documents to conceal them from federal investigators.
The indictment contains 37 individual counts across seven different federal charges, including 31 counts of willful retention of national-defense information (a violation of the Espionage Act). The other six charges, featuring one count apiece, are:
- Conspiracy to obstruct justice
- Withholding a document or record
- Corruptly concealing a document or record
- Concealing a document in a federal investigation
- Scheme to conceal
- False statements and representations
According to federal prosecutors, each of the 31 counts of willful retention refer to a specific document found at Mar-a-Lago marked “Secret” or “Top-Secret.” These allegedly included information on domestic nuclear programs, as well as the military capabilities of the US and foreign countries. The indictment also accuses Trump of sharing classified information with unauthorized people in at least two instances at his golf club in Bedminster, NJ.
👀 Looking ahead… Trump, who has denied all charges, is scheduled to report to a federal court in Miami tomorrow, kicking off a legal battle experts say will likely extend beyond the 2024 presidential election.
The most serious of the charges carry a sentence of up to 20 years in prison and/or a hefty fine, though defendants rarely receive the maximum penalty. Neither these charges, nor a potential future conviction, disqualify Trump from running for a second term.

⏱💥 Speed Rounds: Quick, Impactful Stories | | Our daily journey around the world | Images: Colombia's Armed Forces Press Office | 🇨🇴 Four Indigenous children who survived for 40 days in the Colombian Amazon jungle have been rescued. When a small passenger plane crashed on May 1 and killed all three adults onboard, the four children – aged 13, 9, 4, and 11 months – were left on their own deep within the Amazon jungle. According to the kids, who are slowly beginning to talk while recovering in a hospital, they survived for the next month-plus by eating from survival kits airdropped into the jungle and utilizing wilderness skills passed down by their grandmother. The children were eventually rescued by Operation Hope, a massive search mission launched by the Colombian government after it discovered footprints, chewed fruits, and used diapers near the crash site.
🇮🇷🇷🇺 Iran is helping Russia build a drone manufacturing facility for its war in Ukraine, per US intelligence. On Friday, a White House official unveiled newly-declassified intelligence showing the Iranian government has secretly been sending supplies to Moscow to help build a new plant capable of manufacturing at least 6,000 Iranian-designed drones per year. Tehran has already provided Russia with hundreds of drones used to hit military and civilian targets in Ukraine. Separately, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Moscow will deploy some of its tactical nuclear weapons to Belarus in early July as part of a previously-announced plan.
🇬🇧 Former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson resigned from Parliament on Friday. Johnson, who served as the UK’s top lawmaker from 2019 to 2022, said he resigned after learning he would be sanctioned for misleading lawmakers about a series of rule-breaking parties the ex-PM held during the height of Covid lockdowns. He called the sanctions a “witch hunt” and claimed he was being "forced out of Parliament."
+Update: The AP reported on Saturday that an anonymous Biden administration official confirmed China has been operating a spy base in Cuba since at least 2019; it came two days after the WSJ reported that Cuba agreed to host a new Chinese spy base in exchange for “several billion dollars.”

Netflix’s password crackdown worked | Image: Antenna | The moochers did, in fact, have the moolah to pay for their own Netflix accounts.
Netflix recently began enforcing its one account per household password policy, anticipating a “cancel reaction” following the crackdown. But, based on numbers released last Friday by data analytics firm Antenna, it looks like the new policy had the opposite effect (aka the “fine-just-take-my-money reaction”).
🧮 By the numbers… Netflix began rolling out its new policy in the US on May 23. The very next day, daily sign-ups skyrocketed, starting what went on to become the company’s biggest four-day stretch of sign-ups (May 24-27) since Antenna started measuring this data four years ago.
- May 26 and 27 each saw ~100k new sign-ups per day. The only other time the streamer recorded daily sign-up numbers nearing 100k was in April and May of 2020, during the beginning of COVID lockdowns.
Cancellations were also up, but not as much as sign-ups. Antenna’s data showed that the ratio of sign-ups to cancellations increased by over 25% when compared to the previous 60-day period. Meaning, there were 25% more sign-ups per cancellation than before the password clampdown began.
📸 Big picture: According to Doug Anmuth, an analyst from JPMorgan, about 14 million password borrowers could become paid Netflix subscribers by the end of 2023, 26 million by the end of 2024, and 33 million by the end of 2025. The streamer currently has ~232.5 million subscribers.

🔥 The Hot Corner | | Image: Getty | 💬 Quoted… “That's the Miami Heat toughness that we're talking about."
During halftime of Saturday’s Game 4 of the NBA Finals, Miami’s mascot, Burnie, participated in what was supposed to be a fake boxing match with UFC champion Conor McGregor. Except… McGregor didn't exactly fake punch Burnie, sending him to the very real emergency room for treatment (he's fine now).
- Miami Heat’s head coach, Eric Spoelstra, jokingly praised Burnie, adding that the mascot shouldn’t miss any time due to the injury.
- The Nuggets ended up winning Game 4 (many say largely due to what happened to Burnie). And up 3-1, they’ll aim to close out the series at home tonight.
💒❌ Stat of the Day: Much like the perms, power suits, and parachute pants of the 1980s, marriage has gone out of style for the younger generation. Only 22% of 25-year-old Americans were married in 2021, compared to about 63% in 1980, per a new Pew Research report.
🤯 Did You Know?... E.T. star Drew Barrymore, who was six years old when the movie was made, believed the titular alien was real. Not wanting to ruin the magic for her, director Steven Spielberg appointed two people to keep E.T. alive whenever Barrymore was around. The two of them – Barrymore and E.T. – would eat lunch together every day.
