๐๐ฆ The Sweet Spotlight(s) | | Around the world with The DONUT | Check out this roundup of good news stories from all around the globe: ๐ง In the UK, a thirteen-year-old boy named Oran Knowlson became the first patient in the world to trial a new device fitted in his skull to control seizures caused by severe epilepsy. The neurostimulator device, which sends electrical signals deep into his brain, has reduced Oran's daytime seizures by 80%. ๐ In Michigan, USA, a kindergarten graduate had everyone reaching for tissues with his graduation speech, in which he paid tribute to his late mother who passed away suddenly at the start of the school year. "The expressions, the words, everything that he was saying, you could see that he meant every word of it," said the little one's father. "He didn't fumble... it was remarkable." ๐ South Sudan is partnering with the nonprofit organization African Parks in an effort to protect up to 6 million animals as they migrate through "No Man's Lands." The partnership will help ensure the safety of the animals through conservation and protection efforts for years to come. ๐ฑ A Brazilian fishing village tested out cutting-edge technology that allows a battery to recharge itself using bacteria from the soil. The eco-battery, named "Bactery," offers a more practical, affordable, and reliable means of powering electronics and could be a major breakthrough in agricultural sustainability. โค๏ธ In Australia, a 93-year-old great-grandmother traveled 10,000+ miles from the UK to meet her great-grandson, and their instant connection is palpable. Watch the cuteness here. |

๐ธ Pic of the Week | | ๐ถ The dog boat | Images: Bob Gist via NY Post | ๐ญ Picture this: you're out on a fishing trip with your friend, when you suddenly hear barking from the water. After making sure you didn't find some new type of barking dog-fish, you move your boat closer to the sound โ only to find ~40 actual dogs treading water nearly a mile from the shore. ๐ฎ๐ถ Such was the case for Bob Gist, Brad Carlisle, and fishing guide Jordan Chrestman on a fishing trip to Arkansas last month. As they approached the group of treading dogs, they noticed they were all equipped with advanced GPS collars and numbers; the pups were part of an annual fox run that takes place in the area and had run into the water while chasing a deer. - The fishing trip soon turned into an elaborate rescue mission, as the men made two trips to- and- from land to safely evacuate all ~40 dogs from the water, returning them to grateful owners who were waiting to be reunited on the shore.

๐ Mindfulness Moments | | Real footage of you after this simple practice: | Positive DONUT OGs know I'm a big believer in meditation. The simple practice of sitting with your breath has been proven time and time again to have positive effects on our minds and emotions. - There are countless types of meditation, but my personal favorite is usually visualization, where you are guided to some sort of unique environment in your mind's eye. I always enjoy letting my imagination take over as I relax into the practice for a few minutes.
๐งโโ๏ธ๐ถโโ๏ธ๐ณ Relax. Visualize. Breathe. This guided forest walk meditation had me feeling so calm and at peace, I really felt like I was on a beautiful hike surrounded by nature. Give it a shot today and let me know what you think! |

๐ Mindfulness Moments (cont...) | | I loved this article about the benefits of setting purposeful daily intentions for a more driven life. - The act of choosing a specific intention or intentions to live your life by each day helps rewire your Reticular Activation System (RAS). Your RAS is basically the set of "rules" by which you see the world โ and through mindfulness and intentionality, we can decide what we see as "true" each day.
- For example: If you repeatedly chose to see your life in a positive and focused way, you'll start to see the positive things all around you๐ฅฐ.
As you may imagine, this can be a game-changer. Check out the article to dive deeper into how to write or choose your intentions, and why they're so benefical for us. But for now, here are some of my favorites from the list: - I intend to do my best today to achieve my goals.
- I intend to do something fun solely for joy today.
- I intend to bring abundance and goodness into my life.
- I intend to be grateful for at least 3 things today.
- I intend to see my beauty and accept my flaws.
๐ Choose your favorite and declare it as your intention for the day. The more you repeat it, the more you'll believe it! |
