πŸ‘πŸ”¦ The Sweet Spotlight

πŸ’’ I can hear the (school) bells

Images: Adam Kennedy Photography/People

Catie Zwier has worked at Good Shepherd School in Golden Valley, Minnesota, for nearly a decade. And the kindergarten teacher loves her students.

So much, in fact, that when she and her fiancΓ©, Kevin, began brainstorming wedding venues, she had a brilliant idea: "let's do it at the school."

  • "I’ve taught so many of the students here and they are such a big part of my life," she told People. She wanted all of them to be a part of her special day.

When wedding planning meets the school schedule: Catie worked with staff members to align the wedding with the school's spirit week, with a "fancy surprise day" as one of the spirit themes. As the dressed-up students sat down in the Catholic school's chapel for an assembly, they were surprised by a priest and wedding ceremony.

Ms. Corken's getting married!... While most of the students were stunned at first, they soon realized the wedding was no joke, and cheers and applause filled the room for their teacher.

  • A few students served as flower girls and readers during the ceremony. Kids who had been in Catie's classroom over the years were also invited to sign a keepsake blanket with her maiden name, "Corken’s Crew," on it.
  • Catie, the coach of the school's Spirit Squad, was also surprised by some students who lined the hall after the ceremony with silver pom poms as the happy couple made their exit (above).

πŸ’¬ What she's saying: "I don't think I've ever smiled so widely in my life!" the bride shared. "It was overwhelming and incredibly special to witness the entire school cheering for us; we definitely felt the love! I felt like I was floating!"

+Editor's note: This story previously ran in February 2024. It was so sweet we had to share it again!

We ❀️ Moo Deng

Image: Molly Swindall

New Yorker Molly Swindall claimed the title of Taylor Swift’s biggest fan in 2023 from The Washington Post

Now, the fangirl and TikToker has moved on to her next celebrity – Moo Deng. She recently flew almost 20 hours from NYC to Thailand to see the baby hippo in person, staying only 30 hours before heading back home.

  • β€œI just love animals, and I love adventure, and so I made it a goal to go,” Molly told CNN Travel regarding the spontaneous adventure.
  • β€œMy dad passed away kind of unexpectedly six years ago, and at that point, I was just like, β€˜You know what? I’m always going to live my life to the fullest. I’m always going to have a sense of adventure.’ And that’s why I decided to do what I did.”

🍩 DONUT Holes

πŸ€ Like father, like son… LeBron James and his son, Bronny, made history last week during the Lakers' preseason game against the Suns, when they became the first father/son duo to play together on an NBA team. β€œFor someone who didn’t have a dad growing up, to be able to have that influence on your kids,” LeBron said. β€œThen ultimately, to be able to work with your son, I think it’s one of the greatest things that a father could ever hope for or wish for.”

🫢 Swiftie for life… Malala Yousafzai is known for her fierce advocacy for women’s rights, along with her Nobel Peace Prize win – but she’s just another Swiftie at heart. The activist recently shared Taylor Swift’s album Fearless helped her get through some of the hardest times of her life following the Taliban's rule. β€œI got to be at her concert this year and live through all her eras,” Malala said after attending The Eras Tour. β€œBut, β€˜Fearless’ is where I started, and β€˜Fearless’ is what I carry with me.”

❀️ Shop local… The Locavore Variety Store is a Greenwich Village shop opened by small business advocate Caroline Weaver, which spotlights up to 700 products from 100+ independent brands close to the city. Caroline is a champion for local businesses and has dedicated her life to watching them thrive through community.

If you have a few minutes, try this quick and effective "counting the breath" meditation. By concentrating your focus on your breathing, you may find you feel more grounded and connected to your core🌲.
