ππ¦ The Sweet Spotlight | | ππ Welcome to the Poetry Pharmacy | Images: Positive News | Whatβs the cure for a broken heart? You can find it now on Oxford Street in London, home of the Poetry Pharmacy. The pharmacy is run by Deb Alma, who βprescribesβ poetry to her patients -erhm- customers to treat a variety of ailments such as heartbreak, grief, inspiration, and more. π It all started back in 2011 when Deb purchased a 1950s ambulance as an βemergency poetβ vehicle. She toured around the UK, attending festivals, fairs, and other events and handing out poetry to anyone who needed it. Her business was so successful that she went on to open her first brick-and-mortar store in Shropshire Hills, UK. - Small glass bottles scatter the shelves of her stores, labeled with various emotions: βloveβ, βinvigorationβ, and βpride,' to name a few. There are pills for βditheringβ and βexistential angstβ, while another flask reads: βSerenity: Keep out of reach of children.β
- Debβs biggest goal with her pharmacies is to help people fall in love with the art of poetry. βAt weddings and funerals, itβs a poem thatβs read,β she points out. βItβs the art that people in states of heightened emotion turn to.β

| Deb opened her second location in London earlier this year, and while business was slow at first, it only took one viral Instagram post for it to start to boom. The pharmacy exists in the era of βinstapoetry,β a trend popular on the app that takes small bits of poetry and posts them over reels or photos for content. - βPrescribingβ poetry in small, bite-sized doses has proved most effective for the business, and Deb is hopeful that her customers will remember their experience at the Poetry Pharmacy for years to come.
π¬ Bottom line: βIn the absence of religious faith, we are all searching for meaning, for deeper connections with each other,β Deb told Positive.News. And the Poetry Pharmacy, whether in London or Shropshire, βoffers just that. |

πΈ Pic of the Week | | βοΈ The cutest copilot | image via Stephen M. Keller/Southwest Airlines | When Southwest Airlines pilot Matthew Prebish volunteered to fly an emergency airlift plane full of animals displaced in Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton to shelters in Milwaukee, he had no intention of adopting any of them. That is β until he locked eyes with Avery, a three-month-old kitten who immediately stole his heart. The pilot is a self-proclaimed dog person, but something about Averyβs βexplorer personalityβ made him immediately want to bring her home. πΎ And he did just that. Matthew flew back home with Avery in tow, where the kitten met his wife, son, and golden retriever. And she's already fitting in perfectly with the family. |

π© DONUT Holes | | β€οΈ Nothing like the love of a dogβ¦ Golden retrievers Emma and Ellie are therapy dogs at Children's National Hospital in Washington, D.C. They started visiting five-year-old leukemia patient Amara in September, and quickly made a furever fan. "It truly made her so happy. She tells everyone how sweet they were and how cool their tricks are," Amaraβs mom told Good Morning America. "[Ellie and Emma] are so gentle and they truly brought so much light to her life. She was getting prepped for a procedure when they came in to see her, and they helped ease her fears so much." π§Ά The invisible string theory at workβ¦ Jocelyn Rose DeGroot-Lutzner applied to bartend at a local West Philadelphia restaurant in 2013. When she got the job, she had no idea she would be working with her future husband β who grew up only four blocks from her. Read their amazing love story here. πΌ Welcome home, fluffy babies! Pandas Bao Li and Qing Bao arrived at the Smithsonian's National Zoo last week. While the bears are still in their 30-day quarantine period, you can check out their first explorations of their new home here. |

π Mindfulness Moments | | π₯° There's no right way to write | If youβve been around for a while, you know Iβm a big fan of journaling. So much so that, when I bought a new journal this past week, my boyfriend commented, βWow, you REALLY love to write!β (Between my job as a journalist and my plethora of journals and planners at home, he has a pointβ¦) βοΈ But donβt just take my word for it. Experts have repeatedly proven that writing out your thoughts has some amazing effects on both our bodies and minds. Try setting a timer and free-writing for 10 minutes today and see how you feel. If you need a little help getting started, feel free to use one of the prompts below: - Write your favorite memories from childhood or your childrenβs lives.
- Go out into nature and write about the experience.
- Describe something you fear doing and why.
- Describe something you love doing and why.
- Describe yourself, including your personality and roles at work and home. Then, describe yourself from the perspective of a close friend or family member.
- If you wake up tomorrow having everything you want, what does this look like? Where are you? Who are you with? What are you doing with your time?

π What's Your Win? | | π€© It's finally here!! | Youβve made it to Whatβs Your Win, the section of the newsletter where we celebrate all of the positive news happening right here in our DONUT family. Nothing is too big or small to share, as you can see with todayβs submissions. Weβre all thrilled for you, no matter what! Check out this weekβs wins: β€οΈ One anonymous subscriber is proud of their resilient husbandβ¦ - "My husband had a major medical event earlier this year. He's worked really hard at his recovery and is now back at work full-time and thriving! I'm so proud of him and everything he has done to get back to where he is now. It was a really hard road, but he never backed down. Proud doesn't begin to describe it."
πConnor H. from Miami, Florida, is ready to tackle a new health habitβ¦ - βI bought running shoes and am gonna start running!β
π³οΈ Margaret W. from Florida loved her time at seaβ¦ - βI went on a cruise with my family for the first time. I had such a great time, and I would like to go on another one.β
π« Danai N. from Athens, Greece, is on her way to radical self-acceptanceβ¦ - "For so long, Iβve navigated life feeling different, often carrying the weight of othersβ expectations. This journey of self-discovery and embracing my true self has been ongoing for at least a decade now, and Iβve come to a profound realization: itβs time to create a life for myself, not for others or how they see me. Over the years, Iβve explored parts of myself that I never truly understood. Iβve started to uncover my past, recognize my triggers, and understand my family dynamics. Each revelation brings clarity and a sense of empowerment. I feel proud and seen in my uniqueness, and thatβs an incredible feeling. Now, Iβm on the brink of a new way of living β one rooted in acceptance and self-love. This shift is not just a mindset; itβs a commitment to myself. Itβs about embracing every facet of who I am, celebrating my differences, and letting go of the need for external validation."
- They continued: "Next week, Iβll be taking an ADHD test, and Iβm genuinely excited about it. This is another step in understanding myself better. Itβs not about labels; itβs about discovering the tools I need to thrive. I love the fact that Iβm taking this step β it signifies my dedication to uncovering my truth. As I continue on this journey, I recognize that itβs a process. Iβm committed to celebrating the small victories and being gentle with myself through any setbacks. Iβm excited to see how this newfound sense of pride and self-acceptance will shape my life.
- Creating a life that reflects my true self is no small task, but itβs a journey Iβm ready to embrace. I encourage you to join me in this exploration β embrace your unique qualities, let go of the need for othersβ approval, and start living for you. Together, letβs honor our authentic selves and step into a life filled with acceptance and love."
