Good evening. MrBeast, the world’s most-followed YouTuber, is going beast mode on his videos’ financials and operations with the intention of making more money than he’s spending—which, with videos like “I Gave Away an Island“; “Playing Battleship with Real Ships“; and “Last To Leave Circle Wins $500,000,” seemingly hasn’t been a priority until this point.

  • Beast Industries, the holding company that houses all MrBeast’s ventures, wasn’t profitable last year, in large part due to its media business.
  • Revenue from YouTube and other media content was ~$224 million in 2024, while associated costs were ~$344 million (a loss of ~$110 million), according to a leaked investor deck from early 2025 viewed by Business Insider.

Potentially the biggest loser for Beast and co. this past year was on Beast Games, the reality competition TV series he created in tandem with Amazon. "I lost tens of millions of dollars on that show," he said on a podcast, adding that sets for the first two episodes cost over $29 million in total. "I'm an idiot.”

📜 August 28: On This Day in History

Don’t get too tied to this headline

Image: Bent O Nordin Bon/TT News

Each of the following events happened on August 28. Your challenge is to put them in the order in which they occurred by year, earliest to latest. Answers at the bottom!

  • A) Stockholm police storm a bank vault and capture a gunman and his companion, who had held four people hostage in the vault for days. The story’s widespread global publicity + the reaction of the hostages in becoming sympathetic to their captors christens the psychological phenomenon known as "Stockholm Syndrome."
  • B) Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. delivers his famous, tear- and- goosebump- inducing "I Have a Dream" speech in front of 250,000+ people at the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. Read the full transcript/listen to it here.
  • C) Charles, Prince of Wales and heir to the British throne, and his wife, Princess Diana, formally divorce after four years of separation.
  • D) The New York Times front page contains three stories regarding the impact of the Red Scare on the upcoming election, to be held in less than three months. This topic—the widespread belief that international communism was operating in the United States—dominated much of the debate between Democrats and Republicans during the election cycle.

Hint: Three is one.
