| | Good evening. Over the past five years, from September 2020 to September 2025: - Shares of Nvidia, the explosively-growing darling of the AI industry, have increased 1,090%
- …while shares of Build-A-Bear Workshop, the plushie version of Frankenstein’s lab, have increased 1,935%.
This certainly gives new meaning to the term “bear market.” P.S. Did someone forward you this email? Subscribe to The DONUT’s AM/PM updates here. |

📜 September 2: On This Day in History | | When the money machines started going “brrr” | Image: Shutterstock | Each of the following events happened on September 2. Your challenge is to put them in the order in which they occurred by year, earliest to latest. Answers at the bottom! - A) Congress founds the US Treasury in hopes of controlling the nation’s debt. President George Washington names his former aide-de-camp, Alexander Hamilton of Hamiton fame, to head the new office, which with the US national debt currently sitting at $37+ trillion (~$109,000/American) hasn’t exactly lived up to its task.
- B) The first US ATM (automated teller machine) opens for business, dispensing cash to customers at Chemical Bank in Rockville Centre, New York. These money machines—which handle many of the functions previously performed by human tellers, such as check deposits and money transfers between accounts—go on to become widely popular.
- C) The Great Fire of London begins accidentally in the house of the king's baker. It burns for four days and destroys a large part of the city—the third-largest in the Western world at the time—including Old St. Paul's Cathedral and ~13,000 houses.
- D) World War II officially comes to an end, as Japanese Foreign Minister Shigemitsu Mamoru and General Umezu Yoshijiro sign Japan's formal surrender aboard the USS Missouri.
Hint: If you want to surrender, pick #3 |
