Look out, Girl Scout: There’s a rocky road up ahead, so make sure to put on your hiking boots if you want to explore more. The national organization that presides over an army of cookie dealers with merit badges this week unveiled a new cookie—“Exploremores”—that is set to go on sale in front of grocery stores soon.

  • The new chocolate cookie—inspired by Rocky Road ice cream/flavoring—contains a creamy filling with notes of chocolate, marshmallow, and toasted almonds.
  • This filling reflects “the spirit of exploration at the heart of every Girl Scout,” according to a press release.

It’s not the first revamp to the cookie lineup this year. Girl Scouts of the USA in January announced the discontinuation of the “Toast-Yay!” and “S’mores,” which apparently walked so Exploremores could…explore more.

The change will take place this upcoming January, when the annual sales season kicks off. Also on the menu: Thin Mints, Samoas, and Tagalongs.

📜 September 11: On This Day in History

Never forget

Image: Sara K. Schwittek/Thomson Reuter

Each of the following events happened on September 11. Your challenge is to put them in the order in which they occurred by year, earliest to latest. Answers at the bottom!

  • A) 19 militants associated with the terrorist group al-Qaeda hijack four planes in the US, crashing three into buildings—the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers, as well as the Pentagon; the fourth crashed in Pennsylvania. ~3,000 people die as a direct result of the attack, while thousands more die later from illnesses, including firefighters who worked in the toxic debris.
  • B) John Goffe Rand, an American portrait painter, receives a patent for the first collapsible tin paint tube. Before then, artists had to mix their own oil paints and store the leftovers in animal bladders.
  • C) Controversial MLB player Pete Rose, aka “Charlie Hustle,” registers his 4,192nd career hit, breaking the record set by Ty Cobb. Rose finishes his career with 4,256 hits, a record that still stands today—however, if you combine Seattle Mariners’ star Ichiro Suzuki’s Japanese pro baseball stats with his MLB ones, it gives the Wizard 4,367 career hits (+111 over Rose).
  • D) Former Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev, one of the most significant figures of the Cold War and—according to the History Channel—”certainly one of the most colorful,” dies.

Hint: Hustlin’ hard for an answer? Think #3
