- C) American lawyer and civil rights activist Thurgood Marshall is sworn in as a US Supreme Court justice, becoming SCOTUS’ first Black member. He serves as an associate justice on the Court for 24 years.
- D) Gatorade is first tested in a college football game—a matchup between Florida and LSU, played in “muggy, 102-degree heat.” UF players on the sideline down the drink, which is designed to fight dehydration, rebalance their bodies' electrolytes, and restore blood sugar, potassium, and body salts so they can continue to perform at a high level. Nicknamed "Gatorade” (Gator-Aid), the drink eventually becomes a mass-market phenomenon and makes its inventors v wealthy.
