📜 October 3: On This Day in History

The Juice gets loose

Each of the following events happened on October 3. Your challenge is to put them in the order in which they occurred by year, earliest to latest. Answers at the bottom!

  • A) O.J. Simpson is acquitted, as a jury finds him not guilty of murdering his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman. In the epic 252-day trial, Simpson’s “dream team” of lawyers—including Robert Kardashian, of Kardashian family fame (though that came later)—employed creative and controversial methods to convince jurors that Simpson’s guilt had not been proved “beyond a reasonable doubt,” thus surmounting what the prosecution called a “mountain of evidence” implicating him as the murderer, the History Channel reports.
  • B) The first edition of the Guinness Book of Records is published. Its inspiration came to Hugh Jeffries, the managing director of Guinness Breweries, while trying to settle an argument on a hunting trip in Ireland—during which the trip’s members debated incessantly about the fastest game bird in Europe, yet were unable to locate a book with the answer.
  • C) US President Abraham Lincoln, while expressing gratitude for a pivotal Union victory at Gettysburg, announces that the nation will celebrate an official Thanksgiving holiday on the last Thursday of every November.
  • D) American collegiate football coach John Heisman, considered one of the greatest innovators of the game, dies. The Heisman, a trophy given annually to the best player in college football, still bears his name.

Hint: First, give thanks. Then strike a pose.
