📜 November 3: On This Day in History

Air Bud’s got nothing on him

Image: Universal Images Group

Each of the following events happened on November 3. Your challenge is to put them in the order in which they occurred by year, earliest to latest. Answers at the bottom!

  • A) The Soviet Union launches the first animal to orbit the Earth—a stray dog from the streets of Moscow nicknamed Laika—into space aboard the Sputnik 2 spacecraft.
  • B) President Franklin D. Roosevelt wins a second term in office over Republican candidate Alf Landon in the most lopsided election in US history, in terms of electoral votes (523-8 😳)
  • C) The Chicago Cubs defeat the Cleveland Indians to capture the franchise's first World Series title in 108 years and break the “Curse of the Billy Goat.” As the story goes: a goat wasn’t allowed in Wrigley Field for the 1945 World Series, and (allegedly) responded by cursing the Cubs never to win again.
  • D) Democratic politician Carol Moseley Braun becomes the first African American woman elected to the US Senate. Braun was an attorney and former assistant US Attorney before joining Congress.

Hint: Presidents are ushered to the front of the line.
