🤗 The Sweet Spotlight

🎭 Tiny stage, huge heart

Image: Sam Frost/The Guardian

In the mellow town of Great Malvern, Worcestershire, a once-forgotten gem has reclaimed the spotlight.

The Theatre of Small Convenience, a former Victorian public toilet turned 12-seat production venue, just reopened as the world’s smallest commercial theatre.

A little backstory: Performer and puppeteer Dennis Neale first created the theatre in 1997 and packed it with charm and character. But after his retirement in 2017, a fire scorched the building and left the theater dark for years.

That’s when the community stepped up. Creative director Loz Samuels joined volunteers Jan Birtle and Dibah Farooqui to raise $33,000 towards rebuilding the tiny theatre's interior and breathing new life into the venue.

  • They rewired the building, added underfloor heating, restored the woodwork, and repainted the walls deep blue with gold-star constellations sponsored by locals.

The grand opening: Last month, the group reopened the space with a sold-out music and comedy night that filled all 12 seats. Loz Samuels calls it “a unique and intimate space—as soon as you step inside, you forget the world outside.”

  • The team hopes to host children’s stories, weddings, and immersive shows made for a dozen guests at a time.
  • More than anything, they hope to be a welcoming space for the Great Malvern community.

In an era of giant venues, this pocket-sized stage provides something bigger: a sense of community spirit and creativity. 🌟

🍩 DONUT Holes

🏃 The 54th annual NYC Marathon was held Sunday—and as a former New Yorker, it’s one of my favorite days of the year. Between the thousands of cheering spectators, hilarious roadside signs, and inspiring finishers, the footage is sure to restore your faith in humanity.

❤️‍🩹 Across Jamaica, rescue crews and volunteers are making steady progress bringing food, water, and supplies to communities still recovering from Hurricane Melissa, proof that teamwork travels faster than any storm. See how you can help here.

🥹 9-year-old Brielle Bird is a Wicked superfan—and now, she’s getting a little magic of her own. After hearing that the young cancer-fighter might not make it to the sequel's premiere later this month, Ariana Grande and Universal arranged a private screening for Brielle and her family.

🏆 What’s Your Win?

Welcome to What’s Your Win, the section of the newsletter where we celebrate all of the good news happening right here in our Positive DONUT community.

I owe some of you an apology: For the last two weeks, I reported that we did not receive any submissions—but boy was I wrong! There seems to have been a technical error with our submission form that prevented me from accessing your submissions. After solving the issue, we are stocked-full with amazing wins! I’ll be featuring a few per week for the foreseeable future, but don’t let that stop you from submitting more!

Check out some of our Positive DONUT community wins here:

❤️ Lys RT from Morro Bay, California, is feeling right at home…

  • “My husband and I just moved here 9 days ago, and in that time I’ve gotten a job, made several friends, and worked my first shift. I haven’t worked in 8+ years, and what I’m doing is nothing like what I did in my former career. But I love it, and I’m having so much fun exploring this town and meeting new people and making new friends.”

💪 Shana F from Texas is loving her new career…

  • “A little over a year and a half ago I left my comfort zone and took a new job. In the past three months, I’ve gotten a promotion, a pay raise, a bonus, and a companywide recognition award for the work I’ve been doing. I’m so blessed to love my job and the people I work with. Don’t ever be afraid to take that leap of faith!”

☀️ KariAnn M from St Pete Beach, Florida, is enjoying her new habit…

  • “For forever, I have always wanted to have a morning walk a part of my routine, but could never commit to it. But now, I have an active six-month old puppy that gets me up and out the door everyday. Now that we've been walking every morning for four months, I'm proud to say it's habit. Unlike you, we know day-to-day wins (whether big or small) are not one in a million. Even if you've been celebrated before, we'd love to keep receiving good news from you, so please don't hesitate to participate!
