- D) The court-martial of 2nd Lt. William Calley begins. Calley, a platoon leader, led his men in a massacre of ~200 Vietnamese civilians at My Lai, including women and children,

📜 Answers |  | B, C, D, A - B) 1777 – Congress submits the Articles of Confederation to the states for ratification. It was eventually replaced by the Constitution in just over 20 years.
- C) 1869 – The Suez Canal opens. Fewer than 500 ships navigated it in its first full year of operation, due to its relatively small size at the time.
- D) 1970 – The court-martial of 2nd Lt. William Calley begins. 14 men, including Calley and his company commander, were charged with crimes. All eventually had their charges dismissed or were acquitted except Calley, who was sentenced to life imprisonment (later reduced to ten years).
- A) 2003 – Arnold Schwarzenegger becomes the 38th governor of California. He’s the second actor to serve in the role, after former President Ronald Reagan.
