📜 November 24: On This Day in History

Flown the Coop

Image:ABCNews

Each of the following events happened on November 24. Your challenge is to put them in the order in which they occurred by year, earliest to latest. Answers at the bottom!

  • A) The infamous D.B. Cooper hijacks a Northwest Orient Airlines passenger jet, demanding $200,000 in ransom—equivalent to $1.6 million in 2024—and four parachutes upon landing in Seattle. After taking off again, the nondescript man flies into a raging thunderstorm and jumps out over Washington State, never to be seen again.
  • B) On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, a groundbreaking scientific work by British naturalist Charles Darwin, is published in England. Darwin’s theory argued that organisms gradually evolve through a process he calls natural selection.
  • C) Lee Harvey Oswald, the alleged assassin of President John F. Kennedy, is shot to death in the basement of the Dallas Police Department by local nightclub owner Jack Ruby.
  • D) Wilt Chamberlain snags an NBA-record 55 rebounds in a game against the Boston Celtics. Nicknamed “The Big Dipper”, Chamberlain is so commanding that the league has to eventually change its rules. It widened the lane to 16 feet, prohibited offensive goaltending, and banned free-throw shooters from dunking.

Hint: A rebound comes after a shot.
