• A) Rising Hollywood star Heath Ledger, 28, dies of accidental prescription drug overdose. Toxicology reports later reveal Ledger’s overdose came from medicine he had been taking for stress and insomnia from playing the Joker in The Dark Knight, widely considered one of his best roles.
• B) Theodore J. Kaczynski pleads guilty to all federal charges against him, acknowledging his responsibility for a 17-year campaign of package bombings attributed to the “Unabomber.”
• C) On what is later known as Bloody Sunday, Russian workers marching on St. Petersburg are fired on by Russian troops. Many historians believe this event represents one of the lynchpins that leads to the Russian Revolution.
• D) Roe v. Wade, the landmark Supreme Court decision establishing a woman’s legal right to an abortion, is announced. It also includes a pregnancy trimester timetable to govern all abortion regulations in the US.
