Each of the following events happened on February 9. Your challenge is to put them in the order in which they occurred by year, earliest to latest. Answers at the bottom!

  • A) Starting pitcher Leroy “Satchel” Paige becomes the first Negro League veteran to be nominated for the Baseball Hall of Fame. He is inducted into the HoF several months later
  • B) Snowboard phenom Chloe Kim becomes the first woman to win gold in the snowboard halfpipe at two consecutive Winter Olympics. It comes four years after a 17-year-old Kim made history as the youngest winner of the event.
  • C) An estimated 73 million Americans are watching as the Beatles make their live US television debut on The Ed Sullivan Show, launching “Beatlemania” in America.
  • D) Senator Joseph McCarthy claims he has a list with the names of 200+ members of the State Department who are “known communists” during a speech in West Virginia. The speech vaults McCarthy to national prominence and sparks a nationwide campaign against alleged communists in the US government, known as “McCarthyism.”

Hint: The Winter Olympics are every four years
