Each of the following events happened on February 20. Your challenge is to put them in the order in which they occurred by year, earliest to latest. Answers at the bottom!

  • A) John Herschel Glenn Jr. is successfully launched into space aboard the Friendship 7 spacecraft, marking the first-ever orbital flight by an American astronaut. The orbit represents a colossal moment for the US, who had fallen behind the Soviets and their two successful orbits to date.

It also guarantees inexpensive delivery of all newspapers, stipulates the right to mail privacy, and grants Congress the ability to expand postal service to new areas.
  • C) 15-year-old Tara Lipinski wins the gold medal in women’s figure skating at the Winter Olympic Games in Nagano, Japan, becoming the youngest-ever gold medalist in her sport.
  • D) Lt. Edward O’Hare takes off from the aircraft carrier Lexington in a raid against the Japanese position at Rabaul—and minutes later becomes America’s first WWII flying ace, shooting down five enemy bombers. O’Hare is later awarded the Medal of Honor for his bravery and excellent aim.
