  • C) The inaugural issue of People Magazine launches, featuring actress Mia Farrow from The Great Gatsby. The magazine is a weekly celebrity and human interest magazine spotlighting the personal lives of notable and intriguing people.
  • D) Louis “Lepke” Buchalter, the head of organized crime group Murder, Inc., is executed at Sing Sing Prison in New York. Lepke, the leader of the country’s largest crime syndicate with as many as 250 hitmen, was making nearly $50M/yr from his various enterprises.
