• B) Pop star Selena is shot dead in Corpus Christi, Texas, by the president of her fan club. Selena had arranged to meet the fan—who also managed two of Selena’s clothing boutiques—at a motel to retrieve several missing bank statements, with the fan suspected of embezzlement.
• C) Oklahoma! opens on Broadway. Despite a less-than-promising lead-up, the show would put on a Broadway record 2,212 performances before closing five years later.
• D) The first-ever Wrestlemania is held at Madison Square Garden. The nine-match event is headlined by Mr. T and Hulk Hogan smacking down Rowdy Piper and Mr. Wonderful. Also there: Muhammad Ali as a referee and Liberace as a timekeeper.
