• C) San Francisco Giants outfielder Willie Mays hits his 512th career home run, breaking the all-time National League record. Mays would finish his career with 660 home runs, the third-most in MLB history at the time.
• D) Margaret Thatcher becomes Britain’s first female prime minister. The Oxford-educated chemist and lawyer would serve three consecutive terms as UK PM—the longest continuous tenure in 150+ years—and earn the moniker of “Iron Lady.”
