📜 May 26: On This Day in History | | The Vampire Diaries | Image: CBR | Each of the following events happened on May 26. Your challenge is to put them in the order in which they occurred by year, earliest to latest. Answers at the bottom! - A) Bram Stoker’s horror novel Dracula goes on sale in London. It’s written in an epistolary format, presenting the plot via a series of letters, diary entries, and newspaper clippings. Editors had lopped off the first 101 pages from the manuscript and altered the text to seem less "real," since London has a serial killer on the loose at the time.
- B) The US Senate narrowly fails to convict President Andrew Johnson of impeachment following a two-month trial. Senators are ultimately one vote shy of the two-thirds majority needed to convict Johnson, who remains in office.
- C) The last-ever Model T is produced at Ford. Henry Ford and his son Edsel drive the 15 millionth Model T out of their factory to mark the occasion.
- D) British and Allied troops begin evacuating from the French seaport of Dunkirk. A total of 338,000+ Allied soldiers are evacuated over the next 10 days, in an operation dubbed the “Miracle of Dunkirk.”
Hint: Evacuation is always a last resort |
