With overwhelming evidence against him, Simpson becomes the chief suspect.
- C) Scientists publish the discovery of what may be the oldest artwork in the Americas: an engraving of an Ice Age mammoth on a fossil bone likely at least 13,000 years old. The bone, found in Florida, likely came from a mammoth, mastodon, or giant sloth.
- D) Nelson Mandela and seven others are sentenced to life imprisonment for treason, sabotage, and conspiracy against South Africa's apartheid government. Mandela's long incarceration would become a rallying point for the anti-apartheid movement and a powerful symbol of resistance.
