- D) The hashtag #BlackLivesMatter first appears after the acquittal of George Zimmerman, a Florida man who killed a Black teenager in Oakland and had faced 2nd-degree murder charges. California resident Alicia Garza posts a message on Facebook containing the phrase "Black lives matter," which soon becomes a rallying cry and movement across the US.
