• C) Atlanta Braves slugger Henry “Hank” Aaron hits the 500th home run of his career. Aaron would eventually retire with an MLB-record 755 home runs in his Hall-of-Fame career, also setting all-time marks for RBIs, extra base hits, and total bases.
• D) Parisian revolutionaries and mutinous troops storm and dismantle the Bastille, a royal fortress, prison, and symbol of tyranny among the French monarchy. It signals the start of the French Revolution, a decade of political turmoil and terror in which King Louis XVI is overthrown and tens of thousands of people—including Louis XVI and his wife, Marie Antoinette—are executed.
