📜 July 17: On This Day in History | | The mouse’s kingdom | Image: Disneyland Resort | Each of the following events happened on July 17. Your challenge is to put them in the order in which they occurred by year, earliest to latest. Answers at the bottom! - A) Disneyland, Walt Disney’s metropolis of nostalgia, fantasy and futurism, opens to the public. The $17 million theme park was built on 160 acres in Anaheim, California, and today hosts 18+ million visitors a year.
- B) Tsar Nicholas II, his wife Alexandra, and their five children are executed by Bolshevik forces. The killings represent one of the defining episodes of the Russian Revolution, ending 300+ years of Romanov rule and fueling decades of rumors that one or more of the royal children—especially Anastasia—had survived.
- C) The Spanish Civil War begins as a revolt by right-wing Spanish military officers in Spanish Morocco, and soon spreads to mainland Spain. Within three days, the rebels would capture Morocco, much of northern Spain, and several key cities in the south.
- D) The Potsdam Conference begins, marking the final “Big Three” meeting between the US, Soviet Union and Great Britain to discuss how geopolitics would shake out after the ongoing global war.
