- C) March of the Penguins, a French-made documentary about emperor penguins in Antarctica, opens in US theaters. It goes on to win an Oscar and become one of the highest-grossing documentaries in history.
- D) Colombian drug smuggler Pablo Escobar escapes from his La Catedral prison, a luxurious jail constructed by…Escobar himself. The self-imprisonment is part of a unique deal with the Colombian government, though the arrangement unravels when Escobar kills two cartel members at La Catedral.
