📜 July 29: On This Day in History | | There and back again | Image: CBR | Each of the following events happened on July 29. Your challenge is to put them in the order in which they occurred by year, earliest to latest. Answers at the bottom! - A) The Fellowship of the Ring, first volume of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings trilogy, is published. The book becomes a huge success, and finds renewed popularity nearly 50 years later when a Peter Jackson-directed movie version is released.
- B) Adolf Hitler becomes the leader of the National Socialist German Workers’ (Nazi) Party. Under Hitler, the Nazi Party would grow into a nationwide movement that rules Germany as a totalitarian state for 12 years.
- C) Congress passes legislation establishing the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), a civilian agency responsible for coordinating America’s activities in space.
- D) The inauguration of the Arc de Triomphe, one of the largest triumphal arches in the world, unfolds almost in secret. French King Louis-Philippe, fearing assassination, cancels a grand ceremony and allows just 11 people to attend the opening.
Hint: There are 3 physical books in the main Lord of the Rings series |
