After being struck by a foul ball, Roth is being treated for a broken nose and carried away on a stretcher when the same batter fouls off the very next pitch—which hits Roth in the leg and breaks it.
• D) The first successful steamboat service, run by American engineer Robert Fulton with his ship the Clermont, embarks on its maiden voyage.
