📜 August 17: On This Day in History

What would you do for a Klondike bar?

Image: Sky History

Each of the following events happened on August 17. Your challenge is to put them in the order in which they occurred by year, earliest to latest. Answers at the bottom!

  • A) The Klondike Gold Rush begins. Prospectors Washington Carmack, Skookum Jim Mason, and Tagish Charlie stake claims near the merging of the Yukon and Klondike rivers, which end up paying off in a major way with ~$1 million in collective earnings. Over the next year, 30,000 prospectors would descend on the Klondike chasing the same fortune.
  • B) The first transatlantic balloon flight touches down near Paris, 137 hours after lifting off from Maine. The helium-filled balloon flew 3,233 miles in the six-day odyssey.
  • C) Unlucky MLB fan Alice Roth experiences what surely is one of the worst days any spectator has had at a Major League Baseball game. After being struck by a foul ball, Roth is being treated for a broken nose and carried away on a stretcher when the same batter fouls off the very next pitch—which hits Roth in the leg and breaks it.
  • D) The first successful steamboat service, run by American engineer Robert Fulton with his ship the Clermont, embarks on its maiden voyage.

Hint: You can’t reach 3 strikes on a foul ball

Skip the can. Keep the power.

Every can of compressed air ends the same way: mid-clean, empty, and in the trash. The iDOO Air Duster skips that cycle entirely. A brushless motor delivers strong blowing suction power across 3 speed levels, clearing dust from keyboards, vents, and tight corners in seconds.

Charge it with USB-C, and it’s ready for 90 minutes of cleaning. Use code JTXIS6OO for 50% off your Air Duster today.
