📜 August 18: On This Day in History | | Peace, love, and music | Image: CBC | Each of the following events happened on August 18. Your challenge is to put them in the order in which they occurred by year, earliest to latest. Answers at the bottom! - A) Woodstock, a landmark music festival held on a 600-acre dairy farm, concludes. The festival near Bethel, NY, attracts ~400,000 fans and some of the era's biggest rock stars, including Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, The Who, Santana, Grateful Dead, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, and Creedence Clearwater Revival.
- B) The wreck of the USS Indianapolis is found 70+ years after it was sunk by a Japanese submarine. The discovery, located some 3.4 miles below the surface on the floor of the Pacific Ocean, was made by a team led by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen.
- C) John White, governor of the Roanoke Island colony in present-day North Carolina, returns from a supply trip to England to find the settlement completely deserted. White and his men find no trace of the ~100 colonists he left behind, in a mystery that’s still never fully been solved.
- D) A dramatic battle in Tennessee’s House of Representatives ends with the state ratifying the 19th Amendment to the US Constitution, giving women the right to vote. Tennessee is the last state needed to ratify the amendment in order for it to become law.
Hint: Woodstock was planned as a 3-day festival |

🐐 GOATWars: A Data-Driven Process to Determine the Best | | Who's the best live-action Spider-Man? | Image: GOATWars | For more than two decades, fans have argued about who wore the suit best: - Tobey Maguire has the original trilogy, the upside-down kiss, and enough memes to fuel the debate forever.
- Andrew Garfield has the swagger, the web-swinging, and fans who will never stop saying he deserved better movies.
- Tom Holland has the MCU, the biggest universe, and a generation that grew up with him as Peter Parker.
All three have a case, but only one can win. |
